Worrying About the Future:

The Mind’s Favourite Illusion

The future is the biggest source of stress for most people. Jobs, money, relationships, health — the mind projects endless scenarios, most of which never happen.
But worry is never about the future. It’s always about a thought in the present.
We don’t experience tomorrow. We experience a mental movie about tomorrow. And because the movie feels real, we react as if the danger is already here.
When we understand that our feelings come from our thinking, not from the future, worry loses its grip. We stop trying to control what hasn’t happened. We return to the present moment, where our wisdom lives.
The future doesn’t need managing. Our thinking does — and even that happens naturally when we stop interfering.
